The Lee A. Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded in 2007 by Renee (Walker) Huether in memory of her son Lee, who died tragically while attending college in upstate New York in the same year. Then, just a few short months later, Renee herself passed away from cancer. But before she left us, she conveyed her intent to grow the scholarship to assist students who wished to pursue an education in the fields of interest that Lee had expressed; Forestry, Environmental, and Agriculture. He was, after all, a young man raised in the deep rooted farming traditions of Bakersfield and Enosburg Falls, Vermont. He loved the area, and the people. He was a strong leader at his high school, and in his community, and would offer help to anyone in need.
Renee's intent was to grow the scholarship to a level of national recognition. We, the organization of family and friends of both Lee and Renee, are continuing forward with her wish, albeit we are beginning with the local area where Lee grew up. Over the course of the organizations existence, a total of TWENTY-ONE scholarships have been awarded at Enosburg, Fairfax and Richford High Schools from 2008 to 2016, and we expect to continue this practice well into the future.
